Hawaiʻi Sonnet 85

There are so many of us now
pouring up the trail, that there’s too much
talking, not enough listening. We are streamers
to a space nearly too sacred to be disturbed by us.
We, the harried, are step by step penetrating
a world where all our cares can
dampen to nothing. We arrive where
our worries may cease. We should be
instructed by this music, learn
from the water plunging down, pounding
the stones below. We should understand
the power of Nature’s song, resounding,
deafening to teach us that even if we are second
to Nature, she is prime mentor in her music to endure.
