Aging Song VII

Where the hell is the crazy glue when you need it?
Hold those things together that fall apart.
Chipping here, a crack there,
A shattering breaking apart
Of what’s been pieced together with such care.

I reach willing to pick up the pieces. A shard slices
The finger, once slammed between door and jamb,
Bleeding again.  My memory
Had dropped it, in darkness,
untouchable until
This moment of blinding flashback
Brings it to me all bloody and tragic
To fumble again, watch in slow motion while
It falls back, fractured relations stinging.

Where is that crazy glue when you
Need it?  Gone. Hidden away in some musty drawer
Smelling of the old, the mildewed, the past.
Last vestige of good intention.

Reliving the struggle,
Bobbled juggle,
Blood relations
So fragile
Nothing
Lasts.
