Hawaiʻi Sonnet 66 (for KL and SE)

We’re sitting at Sandy’s table in Leicester
with Karen, we’re all together for the first time
one of the happiest occasions of my life

They kiddingly suggest I should move to England
since all my closest blood relatives are there

I say the only way you’d catch me dying outside Hawaiʻi
would be if I dropped dead on vacation somewhere

When I was younger, I could hardly wait to escape
but after I’d lived away from my birth place
I could finally not wait to return
and now I’d never leave
there is nothing that could move me

even though love for my sisters
makes me want to be in England all the time
