I came home in time to catch the tail end of the show
The part where he found her finally
Because even though it had been quite a while
He recognized her, she him, the way most Hollywood goes
So I’d been there, my fiction’s triumph over life
Wondered if we’d know each other
Thought about how much we could we have changed
Worried we might miss each other because of time’s altering us
And if we’d walked right by each other unrecognized
Me, I’d go home, grab a beer, and sink into this couch
Turn on the TV to teach me it wasn’t that she didn’t show
But that she and I had changed too much to see
In my script she was there, the way sanity grasps at straws
But for time’s passage what might have been, just happened not to be
