No Game

The way old people misplace their memories,
and sometimes the younger ones, too,
it’s a game of hide with no seek,
where the past is the best player,
the one who’s hidden well in the shadows
and is never found
even when the contest ends.

I’ve watched my parents play it,
this match with no winners,
for those who forget,
and those who remember them forgetting,
everyone loses.
