Beyond Pain

Someone I loved, I heard the other day,
a woman I’d known in my Madison years,
had battled Parkinson’s for ten long years,
and lived those ten long years in constant pain.

In your early 20s it’s hard
to imagine ten years of pain.
Life is a light that shines each day,
and seems unending up ahead.

But days run out faster
than we could ever want,
believe they somehow can’t.
And now I grieve for her,

but am glad, love,
your pain is gone.
