The mail I sent to myself from Korea
came to Hawai‘i slower than I’d guessed.
I am no longer there, I’m now back here,
it arrived after me at my address.
Curious to see how fast my card
would travel across the Pacific,
I sent it to me on my second day there,
my stay lasted nearly two weeks.
I made sure the postage affixed was first class,
confirming it with the concierge,
then I left my test missive at the hotel desk
with the promise it would go out that day.
I’m supposing it did, but I’ll never be sure,
regardless the time doesn’t surprise me.
Planes could be as fast as hummingbirds,
but speed can’t compete with bureaucracy.
