Rainy Day Love

the race is on

to outrun the raindrops

my feet beating the ground

faster than they can fall

my rhythmic splashing

like a cymbal softly crashing

swish the under beat

washing out

their plop plop plopping

in my eyes

I wipe it all away

can see now

despite the ones I didn’t dodge

successfully clearing

some of it all up

for a change

arriving again unannounced

un-umbrellaed

soaking in my second place finish

knocking at your door

see inside undiscovered country

undercover I see you warm

sleeping on the front room floor

hate to have to wake you

soaked to the bone shivering

need you to towel me down

like I always knew you’d do

on these so rainy days
