Carousel of Time

The end of the carnival of light and sound
the summertime fairground
of Ferris wheel and rollercoaster rides
laughter a million miles from now
such fast light years whipped away
all the time in between
those memories hope
they are not lost
silent there still
waiting by the side of the road
dusty
tired
hungry
watching
eyes watering
wondering when they’ll be picked up
maybe
retrieved sometime soon
but
sorry
no sometime soon
for all is completely dark now
and disappeared
pink cotton candy gone
to white wisps
under lights out
the turned off quiet
the midway silent
utter darkness
children unclaimed
alone
those amazed orphans
wander aimlessly
