Bring me my wine (HS 121)

wind me up, I’ll go again, watch me run, same old hand
sweeping round and round, the past, a seconds ticker,
no first-class passenger, me, no seasoned traveler, I,
infinite dupe, we in the backseat, me now
a mere shadow of what, in my mind I see then
a would-be champagne sipper
from your golden slipper, but fickle me fate,
that I stopped for the night was my big mistake,
wake up to go in the morning glow, told by your shadow
I’ll never depart, always at your command, every day
you’ll give me a fresh pair of legs to make my escape, oh
Hotel California, I can’t outrun you, see, how she’s blocking me
in the doorway, her offer to help me escape, a spin one way,
juke me, spin the other, how the record lies and lies.
