On First Reading the Prophecy
Not that I thought you were evil.
I hope you felt the same way about me.
Keeping secrets and telling lies isn’t evil.
And I’m not saying it was
like it was always Halloween with you.
No, not those kind of disguises.
I always recognized you because of this,
that you were always hiding behind something,
always screened from me somehow.
I know you were joking when you said
you’d made up one just for me, right,
that Aloha Moron was a Hawaiian curse?
I still say I love you, but I remember,
so if I had to choose one, it wouldn’t be
a stag or doe, but a great big elephant.
