Ode To Housework

Here’s to the broom, the mop, and the sponges
The cloths, the sprays, and the toilet bowl brushes
Tools of the exercise in cleanliness and sanitation
Tucked in dark cupboards till unleashed on life’s grime

To the germs that begin to spread out wide
Before the spray cleaner has completely dried
To the dust bunnies multiplying the moment after
You’ve extracted their forbears from beneath the sofa
The smiling spider resumes its wet web spinning
Patient as you move by with your vacuum cleaner

The film constantly settling on every surface
The cycle repeating giving life its purpose
The moment all is done and dusted
Resuming its work after you’ve passed
