I read that if you learn something each day
Your brain will stay flexible, or so some say
Hold off memory loss with the strength ten thousand crosswords
Double bar the door against dementia, the way my daddy went
If you spend time daily to exercise your mental faculties
You involve your mind in a calisthenic boost of gray cells aging
A gentle kind to ease an organ along its shortening trail
Make lucid a march as it may be on that fall path of clinging colored leaves
Some will hang in there against winter longer, thanks to your critical care
Those many fangled puzzles you’ve consumed sustaining them
Powering clearest thought until that need will no longer be
Their collective strength a muster call of stalwart troops remaining daily
This is something I learned yesterday
Or maybe it was the day before
