There was an inspirational reason behind the design detail
Those novel three stories of floor-to-ceiling glass
The grand transparent window walls of a breezeway
Between the two buildings making brilliant sense
To the architect as an opportunity for panoramic views
All that vast clarity providing vista visions, in theory
Meant for human beings to pass through, inspiring awe
But the awful truth of that great notion, at the end of the day
Meant the strewing of birds that had seen the glass corridors
As a passageway between the office tower and classrooms
Only to discover the sudden impact of quick death
A violent end for them and their generations never to come
All the broken bodies fallen to the ground below the towers
Meaning each day early the custodial staff would collect
The incidental remains of that monumental architectural wonder
