Careful

As spring comes in with that lion’s roar
Under this sky it’s a jagged light show
Tree limbs shattering in screams at low roar
Fingernails groaning on a chalkboard snapping
Between the electric zigzags and breaking branches
I flinch at all the possible ways to die
Jog mindfully in slower steps along slick sidewalks
The roaring wind heightening my heartrate fear
That any moment I might be swept off my feet
Snap my neck like a little tree branch cracking
All around me those striking white hot knives
Slice firebrands momentarily that are doused by rain
Those strikes causing wild scenes to jump to light
Eerie stop-motion moments all of bright grays
With sparklers and smell of wood burning
I imagine hot flakes of ash littering like snow
Bits of blazing ember shooting by like sleet
Except for the blessed shield of torrential rain
The storm choosing how to save my life or take it
