Love Forgotten

Give away something dear sometime
Try this and perhaps you’ll not miss it
Reorder your brain, your heart to accept the absence
Gladly give up the minutes of your life to give it up
Giving it back to its not being yours before it was
A chance to belong to someone else

Give this idea
Of giving up something dear
Some thought
And if it’s too hard to part
With something of great value
Then give up something easier
Perhaps a valued word
Give it to air, to the place of things forgotten
Creating a quiet space where you might have said it
A white space where you might have written it
Adopt the idea this white space, this quiet space
Is as important as the word was
As the words you speak or write around it are

Start with a dear word then
One you prize for its meaning to you
What would that one word be for you
Imagine, now, that you give it to me
I would give you “love,” I believe
A treasured word buried safe so long
Inside my vault of words
I used to use with reverence
But now I choose to give it away to you
