Autumn Colors

Leaves turn their truest colors in the fall
No longer overwhelmed by chlorophyll
Those cloudier months promoting natural hues
The greens all giving way to richer shades
Those autumn months are taken as a sign
That turning all to fire means near demise
Yet in the midst of dying they live most
The peak of their existence, as we will
The barren trees of winter mark for both
That moments we most recently have passed
Were times when we were living our best lives
Beyond both youth and middle age
Burning near the end our brightest flames
