About Time

No cajoling or encouraging necessary
Silent
Some say sinister
Playing peep at me
Old-time kids’ cardboard periscope
I don’t have to spy
To know you’re there
If this were a love affair
You’re hardly playing hard to get
Attraction’s not mutual
But I’m that moth
To your flame
I pretend to tie a shoelace
Stich in my side
Bend down to halt the race
If I only had a million feet
Get up and follow you
Again
To the end
Where you’re standing
Easy to see
Holding the door
What a gentleman
For me
