Hawaiʻi Sonnet 87 (And This Is Love)

He thought of her,
what she might think of him.
I love you, she said, I love you.
All he could say was
I know,
I know.
He stood, dressed quickly,
brushed at her dark hair.
She moaned, grasped for his hand
as he turned away and left,
walked down the long corridor, passed
past other strangers entering
other small, dimly lit rooms
that were much too warm.
